CAUL Statistics have been collected since 1953. Data collection moved from printed forms to Excel spreadsheets in 1996, and the CAUL Statistics website http://www.caul.edu.au/caul-programs/caul-statistics was established in 1997.
CAVAL http://www.caval.edu.au has managed the collection of these statistics since 1992.
This site was launched in February 2005. This followed a survey of CAUL members in 2003 which showed strong support for an online statistics website. A pilot site was evaluated in 2004 and this was followed by the formal specification, development and implementation of this service for CAUL.
A printable version of the statistic groups currently in use and their individual statistic definitions is available in HTML format or PDF format.
A considerable amount of change to the statistical data elements occurred in the 2018 collection. As a result any data prior to 2018 has been moved to https://statistics.caul.edu.au/pre2018/
A full list of additions and changed elements are available at: Data Elements
A complete list of all elements from 1994 to 2020 is available in PDF format.
A mouseover function is available from all results display screens. Hold the cursor over a variable name and the current definition will be displayed.
